Julie Cozens married in 1973 and has three daughters. She grew up in Sydney, Australia and since marrying she has lived in Adelaide SA, the Papua New Guinea highlands, Gosford NSW, and towns in the northern rivers of NSW. After completing her BSc (London), she worked in scientific research, as a casual and mathematics teacher, and volunteered in a domestic violence refuge and in medical transport.

At high school, Julie disliked studying history and it wasn’t until she discovered historical novels that learning about the past became interesting and exciting. Now she finds history enjoyable and believes it is best remembered when told through story, especially stories encompassing little-known facts. This means she regularly listens to historical novels while walking, gardening or cooking, some of her favourite pastimes.

Julie’s other main interest is travelling, particularly to unusual destinations. Some of the best places she has visited are (in no special order): Iceland, Svalbard, Patagonia, Rapa Nui, Tibet (including Mt Everest), and Namibia. She says, “This is just a small sample of where I’ve been. I love going to new places, experiencing new cultures and immersing myself in the amazing natural wonders of our planet. There are still many more places I’d like to visit.”

After her retirement, she learned of her German heritage when she found the birth family of her adopted grandmother. This sparked her interest and led to the writing of her first novel, Christine’s Revolution. The sequel, Luisa’s Journey, is Julie's second novel.
